The Avicenna Project
كتاب الشفاء
Reality is intelligible
Essence answers the question: 'What is it?'
Existence answers the question: 'Does it exist?'
Necessary beings: cannot fail to exist.
Contingent beings: may or may not exist.
Nothing contingent exists without a cause.
The world is structured through causal
relationships that reason can investigate.
The soul is not merely the body.
It possesses intellectual powers
that transcend material processes.
The mind begins with the capacity to know
and gradually acquires actual knowledge.
Logic is the instrument of knowledge.
Logic is the essential tool for correct reasoning
and scientific inquiry.
Knowledge is not fragmented.
Logic, natural science, mathematics, and metaphysics
are interconnected disciplines
that together lead to understanding reality.
